Staying couple nights in Vibo Valentia, pitching our tent almost on the beach, we reached Calabrian main tourist location Tropea. But not only one. The town on the hill, Pizzo is the one to be recommended. There we spent an evening tasting Tartuffo Bianco and Nero (special ice cream) and walking in the centre.
Another day we had day on the beach in famous Tropea and having pizza for lunch. We also did not know that Tropea is zone of red onions and red chilli. You can smell the onions in the air and see some on the fields.
Another days we spent, near Palmi in a campsite close to the viewpoint over the town and seecoast. Again we were in a right time on the right place as on the last Sunday of August, Catholic festival Varia di Palmi takes place. This is the main festival of the Calabria region and is to honor the city’s patron Virgin Mary. The festival itself takes about 3 hours or more and is on the list of UNESCO. Main characters are real people, citizens of the town.
The visit os Scilla brought us closer to Sicily which we could see in the distance. But this will be another story.
